Richmond Man Wins Lottery

What would a Richmond resident do with a million dollars? That is the question that is being answered by Lloyd Haynes of Richmond, TX who won $1 million dollars recently.

Friday September 18, Lloyd was on his way home from enjoying a local football game when his wife, Lovie, encouraged him to stop and buy a couple of Blockbuster tickets. While Lloyd was reluctant at first, he stopped and bought two of them. By 9:30pm he was scratching the first of two tickets to no avail, and his reluctance turned to disdain.

But, starting on the second ticket he saw a winning number, and then another winning number with a symbol for the $1 million prize. Of course his disdain turned to excitement as he yelled for his wife Lovie. She coolly commented, “Well, we won a million dollars.”

Lloyd’s answer to the million dollar question: “One thing I want to do is help my children who gave us our nine grandkids. This money will go to help them with their kids’ educations. Lovie and I might take a little trip, too.”

The mission of the Texas Lottery is actually to generate revenue for the Foundation School Fund, so it is fitting that this prize money will be used to support education.

Lloyd purchased his ticket at Rudy’s Stop N Shop on 1018 Damon St. in Rosenberg. This was the 10th prize for $1 million, but there are still 30 $1 million prizes left to be had.

Source: www.fbherald.com

Are you looking for a place where your child can learn and explore the world in a safe, yet diverse environment? If so, then join other Lakemont families in welcoming Imagination Campus - the “Ultimate Intelligence Raising Environment.” Imagination Campus offers a safe and friendly environment and is proud to be named the first Texas eco-healthy childcare and preschool by the OEC environmental council.

The campus offers daily childcare and schooling for children, birth through Kindergarten, to give them not just a head start but a leap in learning. Each curriculum is specially created and geared towards the unique stage of development your child is in. As your child grows, the curriculum changes to provide age appropriate and individually tailored classes which stress critical thinking through a globally oriented curriculum. Over time they learn about language and grammar, math, art, and technology to name a few. They even begin hearing French, Spanish and Mandarin at age two, with language classes starting at age three – always learning at their own pace in an encouraging academic environment.

Once they’ve entered grade school children can still take part in the academic programs through the After School Enrichment Program. Imagination Campus provides transportation from five Lakemont area schools throughout the school year. The program includes a healthy snack and time to do homework with the help of imagination counselors, followed by fun, relaxing activities based on a themed module which changes every three weeks (e.g. cooking or learning about matter) to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world.

Lakemont residents that do not attend Imagination Campus can still take part in the enriching activities offered through workshops and events. Imagination Campus even hosts birthday parties and offers summer camps for area children.

Upcoming Events:
September 24: Art from Far Far Away (FREE Family Event) September 25: Movie Director’s Workshop - Lamar CISD Day Off ($55 Ages 5-12) October 2: Imagination Spy Clinic – Katy ISD Half Day Off ($35 Ages 5-12) October 12: Movie Director’s Workshop – Katy ISD Full Day Off ($55 Ages 5-12) October 8: Imagination Spy Clinic – Lamar CISD Half Day Off ($35 Ages 5-12) October 9: Bon Appetit! – Lamar CISD Half Day Off ($35 Ages 5-12) October 23: Pee Wee Boo Ball (FREE Family Event, 6-8:30pm)
Reservations are required.

For more information on how your family can benefit and take part please visit www.ImaginationCampus.com

Lamar Consolidated ISD Dropout Recovery Walk September 12th

Lamar Consolidated ISD, Fort Bend County school districts, the city of Houston, and Houston area school districts are collaborating once again to visit the homes of drop out students to convince them to return to school and graduate. The Dropout Recovery Walk is set to take place on September 12th, and is currently taking volunteers.

Drop outs have quite an impact on the economy of Texas, so this effort is important to strengthen the community and keep Houston, Fort Bend, and surrounding areas on top. "It is difficult to describe the impact that occurs when caring adults use personal time to travel to a student’s home and discuss concerns for the student’s future," states Rhett Gray," LCISD administrator for Truancy and Dropout Prevention. "There were several success stories from last year’s event. Not all the students do return, but we are motivated by each one that does."

Volunteering for the Dropout Recovery Walk is open to a wide variety of people. Volunteers range from non-profits, local governments, schools, businesses, and more. Before attending the walk volunteers will receive training and travel in groups with information packages. These packets include program options and academic instruction. Those who can't make it in person may still assist by making calls to former students. This is a great way to get them back on track to earning a degree.

Those interested in volunteering for the Dropout Recovery Walk should contact Rhett Grey at 832-223-0406.

Source: Fort Bend Herald

Rosenberg Parks Director Earns National Certification

Lakemont and the Rosenberg area have someone to be proud of! Darren McCarthy, Rosenberg Parks and Recreation Director, has met all National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) requirements and is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional through 2012. Only 12 recreation professionals in the region hold that certification, which testifies to the difficulty of accomplishing the feat.

McCarthy is also the certification chair for the Texas Recreations and Parks Society for TRAPS Region Four, covering the greater Gulf Coast and Houston. The NPRA is a nonprofit organization and is a leading national organization dedicated to the advancement of public parks and recreation via research and education.

Director Darren McCarthy originally came to Rosenberg in October 2007 where he was previously the Parks and Recreation Director in New Hampshire and oversaw six parks similar to Rosenberg's. In addition to ten years of recreation management experience, he is also a Certified Commercial Recreation Professional, First Aid Instructor, and Certified Playground Safety Inspector.

With over 10 years experience and accreditation from the NPRA, Rosenberg area Parks and Recreation are in good hands. Congratulations go out to Darren McCarthy on a job well done.

Image courtesy of Fort Bend Now

Source: Fort Bend Now
